Overview
This adventure includes a once in a lifetime 12-mile kayaking adventure downstream from the Hoover Dam to the Emerald Cove!
Enjoy a unique kayak experience on the Colorado River, downstream from the Hoover Dam. The river is the border between Nevada and Arizona. Careful observers may see Bighorn Sheep and other wildlife along the way. The hot springs and the beach at Emerald Cove will be some of the highlights of your journey downstream.
Itinerary
This is an 8-hour trip and is approximately 12 miles long. Stops and sights include:
Sauna Cave
We’ll stop here to discover hot springs deep inside the canyon
Gold Strike Hot Springs
Just a 5-10 minute hike away, we’ll head to these hot springs for a quick dip and photo-op
Boyscout Canyon
We’ll get out of our kayaks to explore this area to see hot springs, narrow slot canyons, and some hiking
Arizona Hot Springs Beach
We’ll hike about 15 minutes up to the this open beach area to enjoy a lunch break
Gauging Station
We’ll paddle by this site which was used for monitoring water levels, flow, and sediment content of the river prior to the construction of the Dam
Emerald Cave
This gorgeous cave formed by natural faulting lights up emerald green. We’ll paddle through for a quick photo
Emerald Cove
We’ll stop on the beach here for a 30-minute break
Historical Trailhead
This is a quick 5-10 minute hike leading to the 1920’s homesite of the gauger and offers great views for a photo-op
Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery
We’ll paddle by this hatchery where rainbow trout are stocked weekly
